Holmes "joyously welcomed" a baby girl Tuesday in Los Angeles, Cruise’s publicist Paul Bloch said in a statement. Mother and baby are said to be well. Father is presumably couch-hopping happy.
Their daughter, Suri, weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long. The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew meaning "princess," or in Persian meaning "red rose," per Bloch.
Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 27, are engaged to be married. Cruise has said the couple would tie the knot sometime after the birth of their child.
The official, who requested anonymity, said there were signals from one of the camps that progress was being made toward settling the dispute, which is due to go before the World Trade Organization (WTO) if it isn’t resolved.
